The TRON blockchain uses a unique two-resource fee model instead of a single gas token. Bandwidth is the resource consumed by basic transactions such as TRX transfers, staking, and unlocking operations. Every TRON account automatically receives 600 free Bandwidth points each day — enough to cover one to two standard TRX transfers without spending any TRX. If Bandwidth is exhausted, the network charges 1 SUN per Bandwidth unit consumed, deducted directly from your TRX balance. One TRX equals 1,000,000 SUN, so standard Bandwidth fees remain very small.
Energy is the resource required to execute smart contracts, including TRC-20 token transfers like USDT. Unlike Bandwidth, Energy has no daily free allocation. Users obtain Energy by staking (freezing) TRX through TRON's Stake 2.0 system, or by renting Energy from third-party delegation services. Each staked TRX generates approximately 13.86 Energy per day. To cover a single USDT transfer to a non-empty wallet (65,000 Energy), you would need to stake approximately 4,690 TRX daily. For users who don't want to lock up large amounts of TRX, energy rental services provide a cost-effective alternative, reducing fees to as low as 3–4 TRX per USDT transfer.
